Honest reviews by ordinary people that enjoy bourbon
We like to find good bourbons along with some unique hard to find bourbons that you will be able to have on your bar to impress your friends. We will also throw in a few whiskeys as well.
Our top 3
Ironclad straight: from a small distillery near the mouth of the James River. This one is a must have but only available at the distillery and a couple states
Stagg JR: unbelievably smooth for such a high proof. Very hard to find but if you see one do not pass it up. this bottle should cost 5X of current price
Russell's 10 year: super smooth and good go to bourbon.
Our bottom 3
George Dickel tabasco barrel finish: Sounded good while sitting on store shelf but this nasty. If you like to drink bad vinegar with an after bite then this one is for you. I have been trying to give my bottle away for last 5 years.
BSB: Taste more like an American sweet schnapps . very low proof and tastes nothing like bourbon. the only people I know that like it do not bourbon.
Bakers barrel strength 7yr: The bottle I have is 107 proof but hits more like a 150 and not impressed with the flavor profile either
Most unique (impress your friends)
Painted Pig smoked bacon: From a very tiny distillery. This bourbon is smoked bacon infused and it taste just like your eating bacon. When you have new people over the bar this will be one of the first things you grab to let them try.
Ironclad coffee barrel finish: The distillery sold some of their used bourbon barrels to someone who aged coffee beans. They bought one back after the coffee was aged and finished aged their bourbon in that barrel. this bourbon is so smooth with hint of coffee. it is 123+ proof and its so smooth you would never guess it that high.
Basil Hayden's dark rye: I don't like it but its a must for the bar. This tastes just like your eating a piece of dark rye bread. If I liked rye bread this would be hard to stay away from.
